Mary C

keeping it surreal

Marie Čtveráčková aka Mary C is a sound artist, DJ, educator and co-founder of the Synth Library Prague. She is engaged in different ways of sharing and learning music and exploring the cracks of the social and political contexts of music and sound in general.

When DJing Mary C focuses mainly on rap (the main focus of her past radio show on Radio Wave) and different genres of electronic dance music as well as experimental sound art. She is known for putting emphasis on presenting a variety of women and queer artists. You can catch her playing electrifying seductive dance music as well as dark, industrial, hard hitting and bass heavy or deconstructed music. She is thrilled when there is a chance to mix in some dark melancholic undertones. Since she doesn't always feel well and inspired in the club environment, she likes to step out and explore different occasions where music can amplify the transformative potential of the moment, like DJing during a collective distillation of menta longifolia with artist and researcher Tereza Silon or a good night set during a local student climate strike.

In her special experimental live sets she is building new soundscapes from scratch using samples, her compositions and field recordings as well as fragments from the history of sound art.
